Situated
just a short distance from Florence, Mugello
is a small and unspoiled paradise . It was the birthplace of many great artists
like Giotto and Cimabue
and on this territory the powerful family of Medicis
left a deep mark.
The Chini family is another “precious stone” coming from Mugello. The “art nouveau“ has been magnificently developed by this family from all points of view. This extremely elegant and refined style, characterized by delicate touches and suggestive colouring, is the distinctive element of the Chini’s artistic production which can be found in Mugello.
Mugello is not only art but a wonderful and peaceful place to discover also by walking, by riding or following one of several train-bicycle itineraries.
The Mugello’s territory includes 15 towns whose Borgo San Lorenzo is the main one. Borgo San Lorenzo offers to the tourists many reasons for a sightseeing tour: from the Romanic Parish that cherises a Madonna attributed to Giotto, to Podestà Palace, from Villa Pecori Giraldi where part of Chini’s production is exhibited, to a valuable and ancient wooden crucifix situated inside the homonymous church.
And what about the gastronomic specialities?
You can taste the typical dish of the Mugello, “tortelli di patate”, based in the old home cooking tradition. Home-made pasta squares filled with potatoes and seasoned variously with a sauce of meat, mushrooms or rabbit.
Another speciality is the “balcony pie” already well-known at the time of Medicis and the chestnut cake which is not to mistake for “castagnaccio” .
Furthermore this country has always produced excellent truffles as the chronicles have been showing since last century. The Mugello truffle is the star of many dishes of the tasty winter cooking and, during the second week of November, in Borgo San Lorenzo it’s taking place the annual “White Truffle Show-Market” where it is possible to buy truffles as well some Mugello oil, wine and cheese:
the
choice is really great!
Art,
history, nature and delicious food: that’s in Mugello!
